International Women’s Day 2015 is scheduled for March 6, 2015 from 6:00PM-8:00PM at the International House. This FREE event will consist of live performances, and discussions to celebrate the wonderful initiatives and programs that support the rights of women.

The Aquinas Center will serve as a legal clinic on this date where community members can go to get free legal consultation on matters such as: immigration, bankruptcy, criminal expungement, and other concerns.

February 2, 2015
National Girls and Women in Sports Day at Temple University
Sounds of excitement, laughter, and joy could be heard throughout Temple University’s Pearson-McGonigle Hall where girls in grades K-8 participated in a series of physical fitness activities with Temple’s female athletes. National Girls 10689539_1024744020886043_6348411002837378816_nand Women is Sports Day was founded with the focus of highlighting the advancement of women in sports and discussing different health/safety measures that can help reduce the amount of brain injuries sustained by athletes.  Mayor Michael Nutter made a guest appearance and participated in several sporting activities.

Frankford Career Boot Camp
Residents of the Frankford neighborhood actively participated in a five-week Career Boot Camp series. Through this series residents learned and practiced professional work skills that can be used to prepare them for the workforce. PhillyRising staff members volunteered their times to conduct mock interviews with participants. This was a great moment for participants to practice what they have learned through the course of the Career Boot Camp series. At the conclusion of the mock interviews participants were recognized for their hard work and commitment throughout the series. Congratulations to the 2015 graduating class of the Faith Assembly of God!

Valentine’s Day at St. Matthew Manor
Senior residents of the St. Matthew Manor celebrated their Valentine’s Day in a special way that left them with huge smiles on their faces. In preparation for this event 10974545_1032242250136220_5917718360368707327_ovolunteers dedicated their time and artistic skills gift wrapping shoe boxes and filling them with toiletries that might be of use to the seniors. PhillyRising staff and other volunteers then presented the gifts to them on Valentine’s Day. Philly Innovates
Hundreds of innovators poured into the Philadelphia Convention Center to attend the Philly Innovates Summit. The focus of this summit was to introduce to demonstrate the ways in which City government utilizes technology to improve service delivery. During this summit Philly 311 revealed their new CRM which has been revamped for high quality performance. Throughout the event guest speakers elaborated on the City’s vision and growing sense of innovation.  Guest speakers included: Mayor Michael Nutter, Managing Director Rich Negrin, Chief Customer Service Officer Rosetta Lue, Chief Innovation Officer Adel Ebeid, Executive Vice President of Salesforce Vivek Kundra, and Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey. Thank you to all who participated and attended the 2015 Philly Innovates Summit making it a successful event!
