National Girls and Women in Sports Day
On Monday, February 25, Temple University’s Athletic Department hosted an event for National Girls and Women in Sports Day to bring together student athletes and girls from Philadelphia elementary schools. Temple student athletes led the girls to participate in soccer, volleyball, field hockey, rowing, tennis, fencing, gymnastics, cheerleading, and track and field during the event. PhillyRising helped in the planning as well as sharing this opportunity and providing transportation to girls from a number of our partner organizations.

STAMP Pass Museum Trips
This month, PhillyRising took students from Strawberry Mansion Learning Center, the Village of Arts and Humanities, and other partner programs to the National Constitution Center, the Philadelphia Art Museum, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts as part of a collaboration with the Philly STAMP Pass initiative. Philly STAMP Pass gives Philadelphia high school students free admission to 12 museums and attractions throughout the city. The students participated in a trivia contest and other interactive activities at the Constitution Center and got to see the Mural Arts Exhibit at PAFA.

Strawberry Mansion High School Students Produce Mourning at Night
A film produced by Strawberry Mansion High School students was recently featured on Technical.ly Philly. Mourning at Night was created during a six-week workshop at the Village of Arts and Humanities last summer sponsored by the US Attorney’s Office and EducationWorks. The film recounts the events surrounding a local teen’s shooting.
